Feeling weak and nearly fainted

Recommended Posts

I will be 5 weeks post opt tomorrow. The problem I am having is that I am still struggling with getting my Protein and Water in. Today I walked for 45 mins and I got so dizzy about an hour after I finished that I almost fainted. I had a late start this morning and had some plain oatmeal with blue berries for Breakfast (10:30 am). I had my next meal which was shrimp gumbo but it was so salty I just ate the shrimp and nothing else. I had some water during my walk but I know I needed more. Well at lunch I got so dizzy and began to sweat(cold sweat) and thought I was going to faint. I was really scared. I know I did this to myself. I was active this morning and did not drink enough water and started my meals too late. Has this happened to anyone else? By the way the only thing that helped was eating some sugar. I will be more cautious next time.

I also struggle to get in both Protein and Water my nut told me it was ok to alternate days. One day focus on protein, the next focus on water, and that works for me. I still try to get in as much water or protein as i could but if i couldn't meet my goal it was ok. I started feeling so much better after that, and now I'm able to get in all i need and i don't feel dehydrated at all, and i know that my protein levels are good as well.

I had one day, around the same timeframe, where I felt so lightheaded that I had to stop myself and figure out what was causing it. I drank a Protein Shake and felt 100% better afterwards. I do struggle with Water, but have no problem getting my Protein in. I basically cook (in my crock pot) 3 to 4 chicken breasts once a week and eat that for the week. Doesn't sound like much meat, but I eat about 1/4 to 2/3 cup a sitting and according to MFP, I get more protein in than what it says a day. I have mine set to a 1200 calorie day, but only eat about 600 to 900 a day.

Here's a thought. How about combining the two? I have hydrolized Protein Powder (fruit punch flavor) that I add to my liter water bottle. It's 280 calories (great for weaknes) and it's 60 grams of protein! Also, try the bariatric Soups and puddings. They have 20-30 grams of Protein in them and they are easy to digest and made with the intent of dealing with sensitive tummies. Please don't be freaked out by the amount of calories. We eat so little now that it evens out. Plus the protein in the Water will help you to stay full for a longer period between meals. For the rest of the day you can focus on "comfort" and soothing foods that may not necessarily meet the protein needs. Have that yogurt or Soup or frozen yogurt that will settle into your stomach and stay.

Also, don't forget those electrolytes! G2 or Powerade zero are wonderful for getting fluids in. Try pedialyte popsicles if you want something sweet. Still getting the electrolytes. Hope this helps a bit. You can dooooo it!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
