So my husband told one of his bosses today that he was probably going to have to switch one of his vacation weeks in August. When his boss asked him why he told him that I was having WLS that month and he wanted o be off that week so he could help me with the kids. His boss told him that he thought I looked perfectly fine and didn't need to have the surgery. I'm totally flattered and really took that as a compliment. Of course I'm still having the surgery because I know that my weight is not healthy and am starting to get health complications as the years tick by. Sometimes I wish I could look in the mirror and see the same person others see.

That was nice of him to say, but really it is an unsolicited comment. Is he overweight himself? I think there is an impression from a couple of decades ago that only people who are 400-500 lbs get weight loss surgery. I think you should be very proud of what you are doing to improve your health, and just think when you look in the mirror when you are at goal and you see what others see!! This is one of the reasons I hardly told anyone about having the surgery. I didn't want everyone's opinion about it...and it seems like lots of people have them.

I think people dont know what to say and err on the side of caution to say Oh you dont need that surgery. I mean what are they gonna say? Its about time? Lol I wish I had a buck pre op for every person who said that to me. People are generally uncomfortable talking about weight unless they are in the same boat.

That was a nice compliment! My husband tells me that I'm "womanly" and that I'm supposed to have curves...lol! But I always tell him I have too many curves! Ha! B)

My husband always says "I like 'em thick...you're perfect just the way you are". I know he means it as a complement but I secretly cringe whenever he says it!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
