So tired of the artificial flavors/sweetners/water additives

Recommended Posts

So, I'm about 3 weeks post op. Before the sleeve I was a big sweet tea with lemon drinker...I'm an Alabama girl, so what can you expect right? I never used much artificial sweetners in the past. Maybe a little blue pack in my coffee. Really, I was a natural girl, liked sugar and butter...real ingredients.

So, I'm having a really difficult time adjusting to all the unusual aftertastes that come along with the Propel, Vitamin Water, dasani drops etc. I don't like this stuff. I also don't like just plain old water very much.

I know if I'm going to be successful, I must give up the sweet teach with extra lemon. How to do it though? Does anyone know of a southern tea beverage that is artificially sweeted and has lemon flavor...I mean one that is tasty and can compare to good ol southern iced tea.

I keep waisting money buying these different drinks...they all seem to leave a coating in my mouth and a bad aftertaste. If I could get back on diet pepsi, it would be ok. But everyone says no carbonation for now.

How have you all handled the changes in beverages since the surgery?

Thanks for any ideas! I want to be successfull and I will try anything!!

Thanks, MOBD

I LOVE adding orange to my Water. It is also great to add strawberries. Maybe lemon and lime together. Hope that helps!

Have you tried Splenda, Stevia and the one in the orange packets? The orange packets were featured on Dr. Oz and are actually good. They have them at Walmart next to the yellow, blue and pink:). The thing with artificial sweeteners is that you do have to get used to them. My family is Southern, so I know what you mean about sweet tea. I do know that if you stick with the artificial sweeteners long enough you will eventually like them as much or more. At least I do. I'm still Pre-Op though and I've read that Post things may taste funny or bad to you. Good luck. Have you considered just going cold turkey and drinking the tea unsweet?

Bama girl here! I like to make Decaf tea with splenda, and it tastes great to me! But for the bulk of my Fluid intake, I stick with plain ol' water- there are several ways to jazz it up naturally: Lemon + Cucumber, Lemon + Raspberries, apple slices + cinnamon stick are a couple I've tried/read about. New to this site and just hoping to be sleeved (paperwork in to doctor and waiting for them to submit to insurance), but I have an idea for you. If you like tea and mon try tea with some Trop 50 lemonade splashed in. Makes a great low cal Arnold Palmer. I love them. Please know its just an idea and not sure if it meets requirements post sleeve.

It really took us time to figure out a sugar free drink.. We like lipton diet iced tea.. little aftertaste and very lemony.

After much trial and error with many different sugar free drinks I've narrowed my favorite down to the Gold Peak diet iced tea, which can be found in the refrigerated juice aisle at the grocery store and some gas stations. It has a brewed taste instead of that funny after taste that most artificially sweetened drinks have. They also make an unsweetened version and sometimes I get that and pour it over a bunch of ice with plenty of lemons, and maybe add one pack of sweetner in it but its actually good with just the lemons for flavor and taste!

I was going to suggest the Mio drops and add some lemon to it.

I just recently started using Nectreese by Splenda which is an all natural no calorie sweetener. To me it tastes just like sugar, more so than other no calorie sweetener...try that!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
