So I'm almost 3 weeks post op and I'm having some food issues.

Clearly my belly is not healed yet, so eating can still be very uncomfortable... despite that I'm still just on purees. My problem lies in what I'm eating.

The only thing so far that I can get down without so much discomfort is mashed potatoes. Even though I can only eat 1/4 cup at a time, I'm afraid of not losing weight with this. Am I right to worry??? Should I just stick to liquids until my stomach can tolerate more???

My surgery was 3-7-2013. I can eat more than just liquid now. My favorite is 4 chicken nuggets chargrilled from chickfla! I can only 2 two wait 30 min. then eat the next two. I foound lots of receipes from this site. On the top you will find some. I can only eat a 1/3 of a cup but I can eat! This is just what i do. I did try to drink some Water with food. No No.. I did throw up. Good luck

At three weeks, I was only able to tolerate Protein Drinks and Cream of Mushroom/Cream of chicken Soup. That was pretty much my diet for weeks 3 and 4.

As far as the mashed potatoes, it's the total amount you're eating per day that you should track. If your getting your recommended grams of Protein in, then you probably aren't going to have much room for potatoes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
