burning during first fill

Recommended Posts

Did anyone experience this .... when doctor injected the saline, I felt like burning liquid was going up my chest to my throat. I mean I really felt it. I thought I wouldn't feel a thing.

He injected 5 ccs into my band. he says I have a 12 to 14 cc band (is there such a thing?????). I thought it was either 4 cc band or 10 cc band. Didn't know of any other.

Annnnd, lastly, when I drank Water after the injection, it seemed stuck and I burped. So he withdrew 1 cc and then I was all right.

Anyway, I just felt like the whole experience was bizarre. I thought I wouldn't feel anything during the fill, based on what I've read here.

Any thoughts?

Wow, that sounds like a really tight fill might have aggravated your esophagus -- but I'm no expert. Maybe it was some kind of involuntary reflux?

I think the stuck/burping was indicating you were too tight so taking out 1cc was a good thing!

Also, I know the 10cc band can actually hold quite a bit more than that -- at least 11cc anyway. Do you have a surgical report or could you ask your surgeon what size band you have? I know that the CM and the CC are sometimes confused. You can have a 10CM band that holds 4CCs. Or 11CM that holds 10CC.

Oh I had no idea about the CM and CC. Thanks for the info. ! I will ask my doc to clarify.

I am feeling a bit better today, but definitely full when I eat. I guess that's the restriction working. I could only finish half my lunch today.

Yes - I never had any burning sensations during any of my five fills - but I have always been very conscientious about not eating for the 4 hours and not drinking for the 1 hour prior. Plus - I have no issues of reflux, either.

Maybe reflux - maybe it was just because it was too tight.

Glad it's working, though.

Hugs!

I have only had one fill so far, and I did burp several times during my fill. I also have the larger band to hold 10cc. My doctor said the burping was normal, nothing to worry about. His recommendations were liquids 24 hours after the fill.

The only ones I'm familiar with is the 9.75cm that hold's 4cc's that I have and the vanguard 10.cm that holds 10cc's. I would say too that you were too tight and maybe some type of reflux. Hope your feeling better soon.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
