ideas for full liquid stage?

Recommended Posts

Okay I'm a week post op and I'm on the full liquid phase for another ten days. Besides Protein Shakes & strained Soups and broths, what did you all eat in this stage? I need some variety

I'm heading to full liquid stage after Wednesday. Besides what you have listed already, my surgeon allows thinned oatmeal or cream of wheat, pudding, pureed cottage cheese, and blended yogurts

The different flavored mashed potatoes (thinned of course) are my life savers!! Plus different flavored milkshakes... I take my vanilla flavored Protein Powder add ice, milk and sugar free coffee syrups (white chocolate, caramel and French vanilla) or pudding powders to make different flavored shakes. Plus I use other flavored shake recipes from my patient handbook to make shakes too!!

my doc allowed grits, refried Beans, and cheese- this is what i have lived on. cheesy grits, and refried beans with plain yogurt and low fat cheddar cheese(sorta like pintos and cheese from taco bell)

Creamed Soups are on my list too. Reduced fat, of course.

I can't wait until I can have some refried Beans with a little salsa and melted cheese. That sounds so very good right now. I think my doc wants me to wait another week before I try those, though...

I found a really good low fat Basil Tomato bisque from Campbell that I would eat some days and it was great.

Refried Beans and salsa is what I've been craving! And I'm only a week out so I've got about 2 more weeks for that... My surgeon basically said anything that will go through a straw( but don't use a straw!) I had yummy egg drop Soup, and cream of wheat and bananas blended with my protien shake... I can't just live of the shakes though.... :)

Unfortunately I daydream about the tortilla chips too. :-/

Oh egg drop Soup is my favorite. I love making my own. Is the egg considered puréed?? Or did you have to put it through the blender??

I don't really think its considered puréed .... The egg pieces aren't too big, I just made sure I chewed the hell outta those pieces before I swallowed, and all was good!

Ditto ditto ditto! I'm 9 days out and I have to wait at least until my follow up on Monday. My doctor has a 4 week liquid program, but he said depending in how each person does he may advance them sooner. I think have a "sleeve of steel" (Not to steal SoS's title lol) so I am hoping I move on Monday! I need to chew something!

But back on topic, I have been making homemade Soups (crab broth, bisques, etc) which add some variety from just normal chicken broth and those little flavor packets from Ramen Noodles are greattttttt with powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored protein! And only like 25 cents each, too. Hahhaah. I know it's still broth, but the flavor difference might be enough!

Oh what a relief to see these posts! I am 10days post op and I feel so good. My dr. wants 3 weeks full liquid...but the list of examples I have are so limited ( Water /diet drinks/broth/V8/suger free jello/ s/f popsicle and of course shakes to get at least 45grams of protien a day..there is no Soup , cottage cheese etc listed:( just the clear liquid things!).Well I've never been a big sweet eatter and after 9 days of strawberry/choc/vanilla shakes 2-3 x a day as my main meal I started to panic. But today I had some cream of chicken soup that I thinned with water and added a scoop of protien powder to replace a shake...I felt guilty for eatting the soup since it wasn't on my list) Now I feel so much better and I relieved. I'm going to continue having soup here and there and I'll call my dr/nut and double check this week that it's ok.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
