Protein without the fat?

Recommended Posts

I'm a month post-op and I'm struggling to get in all of my Protein. I've tried every brand under the sun but I can't tolerate Protein shakes, Protein Shots, Protein Bars and yogert.

I am in the on-going nutrtion phase. I eat eggs, cheese, fish, lactaid and turkey bacon (just one slice) to try to get in protein from foods. I have purchased natural Peanut Butter but I haven't tried it yet beause I'm afraid of the high fat. However, I feel that my fat intake is really high. Today was my first day in this phase I consumed 625 calories 24% carbs, 36% protein, and 40% fat.

Any tips about how to get in protein without adding fat?

I'm still pre-op, so maybe this suggestion won't be possible, but could you add unflavored Protein Powder to other foods? Maybe sprinkle it on your eggs? Mix it with some thyme or chili powder & sprinkle it on your fish? Mix it into yogurt or pudding or Soup? Can it be mixed into fruit juice? Maybe mix it with a tablespoon of melted butter & spread it on veggies?

Thank you. Do you know of a good unflavored Protein Powder?

Not that I can vouch for personally. My NUT recommended Unjury & I've seen some good reviews for Jarrow on Amazon. I'm planning to test some different ones before my June date, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I love to cook, so I thought that a good unflavored one would be the most versatile. The idea of just shakes all the time seems pretty yucky to me, I'd rather try & work in some variety.

If you keep your carbs low there's nothing wrong with moderate/ high fat intake, during ketosis, if you're shooting for that (less than 30g carbs usually) it will help with the weight loss. Fat isn't always a bad thing for you. It's not like whatever fat you intake suddenly converts to body fat.

Read that article regarding what fats to choose and which to try to avoid in our diet.

Here is a list of Protein powders that are less than 4g of fat per serving.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
