I am a Support person- here is my story

Recommended Posts

I am a supportive spouse and will be traveling with my wife who is being sleeved April 2 by Dr.Garcia at Mi hospital. We arrive Monday the 1st. I plan to document our journey with photos and information as we go! This is a very exciting time for my wife and our family. Such a life changing event. I am very proud of my wife for having the courage to do this as well as doing so much research to reassure me. I have to admit that I was quite skeptical about it when she first came to me but after all the research she has done, and after learning more- I am very excited for her. And support her 100%. We went through a very tough process with our damn insurance and after all the work, hoops we jumped through, time, and frustration she decided to look into Mexico and off we go in about 10 days. Currently we are in the preop diet. I say we because of a couple reasons- one- she is not doing this alone. I plan to be with her every step of the way and go through it with her. While I am not being sleeved- i know part of her success depends on me and my support. And two- I can stand to lose a few pounds myself. I just had our second baby (yes I am a girl as well) and would like to lose 40-50 pounds myself so what better way then to

Diet right along with her! So as I said... Research- done. Arrangements and flights- done. Protein Shakes, Vitamins, and all the other little things we need- done. Pre op diet- working on it! She only needed to do 7 days but decided to get a jump on things so started at 14 days.

I am hoping to either find more "support persons" out there or at least as I document my wife's journey- you can share it with your support person! I had many questions that we have found answers to and some we haven't. I guess we will get those answers along the way!

I think it's great that you are soooo supportive!! I think it is so very important, that our loved ones take an active role in this weight loss journey. Things can turn out so very wrong, I have read several threads with spouses who sabotage and create insecurities for the person who has had this surgery. Again kudos to you for being a great support system, and for becoming a healthier person yourself. I am a mother as well, and I can say I have more energy and enthusiasm about my future, Good luck and well wishes to you both. :)

Damn. I couldn't convince my wife to have a baby...but she promised me a Tummy Tuck if I had them! So I had three. Babies, not tummy tucks.

I love that you are being so supportive and willing to not only share your experiences, but also do part of the experience as well! That's amazing.

I will be leaving Mexico as ya'll are arriving, but I hope all goes smoothly.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
