7 weeks out Post-OP -- 70lbs down and I want more! Advice Needed

Recommended Posts

tomorrow (tuesday) makes 7 weeks post-op.

So far i've lost 70lbs.

20lbs was pre-op and 50lbs was post-op (7 weeks)

does this sound normal ?

am I on track? or does it seem like i'm losing it fast or slow

just curious

as for food. still drinking Water, eating eggs and yogurt.

haven't been drinking my Protein Shakes though.

drinking boost and things like that.

as for carbs. the nutritionist said i can start to introduce carbs once i am 2-3 months post op. but i'm afraid i'll gain weight back or i won't lose as much weight as fast. does that make sense?

i always drink a lot of water i just need to increase my Protein shakes really bad.

when can i start lifting weights?

i am pretty sure my surgeon said no heavy lifting for the first 6 to 8 weeks.

sound correct?

thanks

Im only one week out so can't answer your questions, but I do like the thought of losing somewhat slower, in hopes to not have as much skin

yes you dont want to lift heavy weights til 6-8 weeks, but you can do light weights and do your cardio, they say approx 4lbs a week is good, of course at first your going to lose faster, and you will also have times were you wont hardley lose at all, I am having that issue now I had mine done on 12/27/12 I am down 56lbs so far wish it was more hoping for a big lose here soon just keeping my figers crossed, plus it also depends on how big you are,

I'm 6 weeks out, exercising regularly, drinking all of my Water, 600-700 calories/day, 80+ grams/protein, and I'm down 16 pounds since the day of surgery (about 20 lbs for the 6-month weight loss program prior to surgery).

I would love to be down 70 lbs by next week, but I don't think that it is going to happen! :-) Or even 56 pounds in 3 months. Both of you who posted about being concerned about your rate of weight loss are doing awesome--congratulations!

I have always been a slow loser due to hypothyroidism, but it is funny how some posters feel like you are losing slowly when for others, the rate would be really fast! I guess it's all relative. We do all lose differently and we have to have a "good" that is good for us personally.

I think it's the poem Desidirata that says: "Do not compare yourselves to others, for there will always be greater or lesser people [rates of weight loss], and you will become bitter or vain." LOL! But it's easier said than done.

I'm in the hypo club too....SO FRUSTRATING! I forget that I have the hypo curse and wonder why I'm trying so hard but the pounds aren't coming off. Thanks for reminding me...we have a little crutch that makes things move a little slower.

What is your Tsh level? I was able to bring mine down to 1.37 before surgery so I'm hoping I won't be a total slow loser. Mind telling me your thyroid level?

When I was first diagnosed it was 26!!! It got down to normal, but I'm not sure the numbers. I have to get it checked the next time I go to the dr because I can tell I need a different dosage now that I've lost some weight.

Such a pain, isn't it? When I started this process, mine shot up past 40 a couple times! I felt dead! Not to mention the 20 pound weight gain over the course of a month. Hopefully, your levels are still good.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
