May 2013 Sleevers!

  • Popular Post

Hello everyone, I wanted to see how many May 2013 sleevers there are! :D What are you doing at this point to prepare for surgery? What are your stats?

I am scheduled for May 15th. So excited, but nervous!! I am currently 260 and my highest was 268 in February. I plan to get down to at least 250 before the two week Protein diet prior to my surgery. My goal weight is 150 which I haven't been at in about 7 years! I started my journey in January of this year. I was fortunate enough that my insurance approved me without requiring a 6 month monitored diet. I have a good amount of support, didn't start off that way though. First responses were "you're taking the easy way out", so I took them to information seminars which completely changed their views (whew!). I am extremely excited for the surgery because it's a new me. I can completely change my life habits around and start feeling better about myself physically and mentally. When I think back, I've realized my weight has kept me from making friends, going in public, and just plain living life!

I would love to hear all of your stories thus far and how your journey to getting sleeved has been! :D

Thanks!!

- Brooke

Brooke....I'm a May 2012 sleever. All I can say is....best decision I ever made. This whole time, my mantra has always been "think where you'll be a year from now." Every time I things got tough,

I'm on my way to the hospital now for an 11:30 sleeve- ahhhhhh! Lol

Good luck... you will do great!

Me to @mask i find everyone's post so encourging and educational for me for when my time comes june 18...

I was sleeved on Tuesday and doing great! I'm not ready to run a marathon by any means, but the pain is tolerable. I slept 8 straight hours last night, so this morning was very painful, trying to get out of bed. So....tonight, I'm going to set my alarm half way through the night, so I can walk around the house and sip, sip, sip. 8 hours of not drinking or walking was way too long! My bed just felt so good after two nights in a uncomfortable hospital bed.

The recovery is not as bad as my hysterectomy, but more painful than my Lapband. So....really not bad at all!

My date was 5/14/13, so I'm post op 3 days. It's been a rough start but hopefully it will get better soon.

Hahaha same date and same deal with my period how funny that there are 3 of us in the same boat.

Make that 4! Ugh sucks....

I'm May 21st and getting more nervous by the day!

I'm also Tuesday, went for pre admission testing today. I'm getting sad about the feeling that I'll never be able to eat anything that I used to, but I know the benefits are worth it. Being in this liquid diet really sucks, especially not being able to eat with my family. No matter how you cut it there is a huge social factor involved with food that I'm going to miss.

I'm Tuesday also. But don't believe that you will not be able to eat what you use to. Not the same amount. I know many many that have had surgery and no one has ever said something was totally forbidden. With time you will have it. Socialization become less about the food and more about the people and the occasions being celebrated. Your life will sky rocket the healthier you get. We can do this!

I know, just have to keep reminding myself. :)

Just got my pre-op call from the hospital! My surgeon's office called to confirm this morning. I've lost about 14 lbs on the pre op diet and feel great. Not looking forward to full liquids Sunday. Ugh.... But bring on Monday!!!!

I just had my surgery this past Monday and it has been hard but today has been better! The really hard thing for me is all the liquid intake. My doctor wants me to consume between 50 to 60 ounces per day and right now I'm lucky to get 30! But I have been able to get down about 50 grams of protein per day. Gotta stay positive it will get easier with time!! My husband is also getting sleeve next week. Please keep us in your prayers we are doing this together :)

Julie, I think it's great that you and your husband will share this journey. My hubby is clueless...never had a problem with his weight so really just doesn't understand. And sometimes, watching him eat what he wants, when he wants, can be frustrating.
