Has anyone been experiencing severe nausea, diarrhea and sometimes vomiting (I eat slow and have tiny mouthfuls) when on purée foods? I'm current feeling really ill every time I eat. I am eating all organic foods too so no preservatives.

Is this normal?

I would talk to your doctor about it. I've had yogurt without any issues but I've not had other things yet.

Finishing thought:

Except the time I tried something I shouldn't have. Shame on me, learned my lesson.

I would definitely as the doctor..these could be leak symptoms...and this would be about the time they could appear..could just be that you haven't healed enough to start pureed but could be something else...ask your surgeon on this...take care!

Brooke....I'm a May 2012 sleever. All I can say is....best decision I ever made. This whole time' date=' my mantra has always been "think where you'll be a year from now." Every time I things got tough, that's what I told myself. I've been telling myself that since I started my 6 month supervised diet way back in November 2011. I kept saying it right through the pre op diet, and the post op liquids. Still telling myself that.

But here it is getting close to a year post op and I feel like I have a new life. Yes, I'm still me...with all the flaws and stresses that come with that. But so many doors are open now that weren't before. And I have more hope for the future than I ever thought possible. I am brimming with optimism and enthusiasm. No more hiding, no more excuses.

Yes it takes work. It is certainly not "easy." There are times when you're going to want to take a hammer to your scale. And there are going to be times when you'll want to drown your frustrations in a plate full of unhealthy food. But you fight those battles and prevail. And one day, maybe this time next year, you wake up and realize that you are a new person in a new body with a new attitude. Makes everything worthwhile.[/quote']

Looooove this!!!

I've been eating veggie mashes, tuna casseroles, Soups, shakes etc (all puréed). These are all recipes that my dietician provided me with.

I have an appointment booked with the surgeon in a couple of days so fingers crossed its just part of my healing process.

Wow it sounds like you are doing great. I have made scrambled eggs with tuna in it but can barely eat a 1/2 a cup! But that stays down. Along with homemade soups etc. What I am struggling with is I have a few good meals on soft foods but then start feeling ill if I eat it all day. I have my appointment tomorrow thankfully!

I am also struggling with Protein. I'm getting 30-40g of protein a day. I'm so worried my hair will fall out because I have very fine hair anyway. :(

Hope everything goes well with your doctor visit. I have mine a week ago. And next apointment will be In three weeks. Hoping to lose more. I am not perfect and I know I have eat things I should not. For example yesterday I went with my daughter to the ice cream store and got two baby size ice cream one for her and one for me. I did not finish my cone and neither my daughter, but to be honest I did not felt guilty because I enjoy and it was just a few spoons. That made me think that before I will eat a medium size or even a large size cone which now sounds crazy to me.

I am only three hours from my surgery. The hospital is great, the staff warm, but I still had a sleepless night last night and am dreading the first hours post-op. I had the tiniest bit of ambivalence last night, then took a picture of myself and knew that I was doing the right thing. Wish me luck!

Thanks it did! They (surgeon and dietician) are all pleased with how I'm tracking thus far. They have given me a Protein Powder to order online to help boost my Protein intake.

Don't feel guilty for a little self indulgence! I guarantee that you aren't even getting in that many calories anyway! I totally understand why you would want to eat that!!! ;)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
