Woot! It's coming closer and closer! After a momentary freakout I'm even getting excited to be on the Protein drinks since my doctor didn't have me on an official pre-op diet. rofl

I can't believe Monday is finally around the corner!

Hi. I'm an 18th sleever and congrats to you on your journey. I'm going through the same thing with sleeping at night and not being able to get comfortable. It's the pitts. Other than that all else is well. Just taking it one day at a time.

Hi all,

I am a March 18th Sleever, too! This special day is also my Birthday so it will always be significant to me. I had the experience of waking up in pain in recovery. I was told I could not be given pain medication because I kept falling asleep. I was then transferred to my unit and pain medication was delayed for two and half more hours. Due to a shift change and my Doctors resident failing to enter the order for. PCA pump. This was not a pain free experience but I am doing well now physically. Mentally I am struggling with my Protein choices not many things taste good. I will hang in there.

Hi. Just checking in to see how you're doing. I can't believe they didn't give you any pain meds. Week 2 is about to be underway and I can't wait as I start my Protein shakes. This experience has been great so far and I'm down 20 lbs. I'm just ready to get through to the next stage. Well take care and if you don't mind keeping in touch as I'm new to this site and would love to make a new sleever friend and share experiences. Have a good one.

Hi Jazzy1,

I am doing okay. I am no longer in pain. I am still struggling with Protein choices. Can not find many that I like. I am choosing to focus on getting enough Water and intaking the Protein that I can. I am missing food. I have put nibbles of my families food in my mouth just for the taste and spit it out. I have also tried to actually eat some items and had them come back up. I see now that I need to plan my meals because this desire to taste or sample could quickly lead to a habit of grazing. I am down 8 pounds since surgery day and I started my liquid Protein diet on day 3 after surgery. Finding protein that taste good is difficult. Things that tasted good before surgery are no longer acceptable. Be patient with yourself and this process. I am new to the forum as well so I appreciate your friendship. How are you doing?

Hi Karmaticchange.

For the most part I'm well. I had a setback since I started the Protein shakes which I can't stomach. I see we're having the same problem as I've tried numerous brands and none of them agree with me and literally makes me sick to my stomach. Had a Drs. appt yesterday and found out that I'm dehydrated and my pressure is low and if I don't hydrate myself, they'll do it for me intravenously. Well I don't want that. My Dr. said I can do low fat soy milk with carnation instant Breakfast and that seems to work and tastes pretty good. Now if I can shake this nausea, I'll be so much better. Also he said I can blend 2 teaspoons of P-nut butter with the soy milk to get my protein as well. Haven't tried that yet though. Anywho I'm glad you're feeling better and I'm sure each day will be better than the last. Please keep in touch as I'd love to hear about your progress and I'll do the same.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
