After 2nd fill, can't keep food down

Recommended Posts

I had my second fill earlier in November. Now I'm having a hard time keeping food down. Actually it's more like food gets stuck much more often. Funny, I can get crap down but I can't keep chicken or beef down. No matter how small the bite or how long I chew it, it gets stuck so I end up going to the bathroom and making it come back up. I'll do anything not to experience that "stuck" feeling. Today was Thanksgiving and even a bite of congealed salad got stuck. I bet I ran to the bathroom 8 times. Finally I gave up and didn't eat anymore. So while everyone else was full and satisfied, I was really hungry.

Do you think I need to go have some taken out? Could I be too tight? Like I said, I've had a very hard time getting most anything down since that 2nd fill. Sometimes my body rejects it and I really do throw up or everything seems to get stuck so I go make myself throw up. I know I'm taking very small bites. What should I do??

You are too tight. You need to have some removed.

Try to do your best to not force a vomit, this could be be really hard on your band if you are trying to force your gag reflex.

In the meantime, you might try to losen up your band with something hot or really warm to drink. This seems to relax the band and the muscles in the area for most people.

Are you using a food lube? There are lots of really good lo-cal and low fat options to help. I personally like the fat-free sour cream from Tillamook, and there are some good bbq sauces that don't have any high-fructose corn Syrup, and there are some good mustards out there too.

Thanks Vinesqueen for your message. I was also thinking that I might be too tight. I just don't know when to say it's too tight or maybe I'm doing something wrong. Like I said I think I'm taking really small bites and chewing thoroughly. I think I'll call the doctor on Monday. I don't want to damage the band but I'm having to make myself throw up A LOT! I've never heard of the food lube. Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it.

I agree, maybe too tight. Vinesqueen I love the "food lube" line, now I know what to call it! I find it helps a lot to add some lube to meat especially. Let us know if it helped any go down. I use a little cottage cheese with meat sometimes to keep it from getting so dry before I swallow it.

you are too tight. You need to have a little removed .2cc's can make a huge difference . PBing that often can result in slipage and other complications such as esophagitis. I know it happened to me. The band was designed to be able to eat solids. If you can not eat solid protiens without throwing up have a little removed. Stop making yourself thorw up, not good for the band!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
