Well I am 6 days Post-Op and I am feeling pretty good. I have lost (pre-op) 20lbs and (post-op) 6lbs....for a grand total of 26lbs!!! I am so amazed of how much I have lost. I have been worried a little about the Hunger feelings I have been having. I am actually not sure if its gas or just in my head. I definitely have cravings but I am keeping focused. My stomach is still swollen a bit, and my incisions are still a bit sore. I have been very careful about lifting anything. My stupid head keeps playing games with me, though. I keep worrying that I will do something wrong and ruin the surgery, or I won't lose the weight, or I will stretch out my new tummy, or I am eating too much!! It gets old....anyone else feel this way??

I will be 6 days post op tomorrow. Lost 11 on pre-op, when I got home, was 2 lbs lower than my start pre-op weight. Today back to my surgery weight. Hoping it will get better. Tummy still very swollen though. Feel like I am losing lots of Fluid but hoping for something great in the next few days.

Today was my first of my 3 days pre-surg that I am on a clear liquid diet. It was easier than I expected. I found drinking warm liquids seemed to be better than cold, for example 99% fat free chicken broth. My neighbor came over and anything in my frig that needed to be gone, she took so there are no temptations here. Two more days (Monday and Tuesday) and then surg is Wednesday. Still a little anxious but certainly no fear as I feel fairly well prepared. March 13th, here I come.

Congrats!! You are on an amazing journey. Hunger feelings are not likely physical hunger, but real despite that. I take a tums whenever I have one. Mental/Sensory hunger and cravings are something you will learn to deal with in your own way.

Your stomach will be swollen a long time and needs time to heal. Around 3 months is where I started to feel normal and 6 months was phenomenal!

All your worries are normal. Follow your post op plan and you will be fine. Don't stress yourself out when you stall (because it is coming and it will pass)! Enjoy your liquids for now and focus on staying hydrated!

I remember feeling that way. As long as you don't eat something crazy WAY too soon you are going to be set and well on your way to a new lifestyle ;)

I'm not even so sure that most leaks happen as any sort of direct result of what people do.

If you are worried about something in particular re-read your guidelines but other than that just try to relax, you are already off to a fantastic start.

I am 6 days post-op also, I woke up today for the first time feeling extremely hungry. I had a few sips of broth and felt like I ate a BIG MAC. I find it difficult to get in all my fluids and Proteins, but it is getting easier by the day. I am trying to focus on daily goals, rather than jumping so far ahead and worrying about stalls and will I drop 100 lbs in 6 months. I am truly taking this thing one day at a time. Marlygirly and newat52 congrats on your surgeries glad that you both are hanging in there. ;)

Congrats to you too! Good advice, One day at a time. My tummy started doing things about 5am and didn't know what to make of it. Was is hunger? Was it gas? Was it acid? Was I finally gonna get my BM? Figured I would find out in good time and decided to go back to sleep and see what happened.

After being up a bit, think the shrinking little tummy was empty so after some Water and few warm sips of decalf, all seems to be right in tummyland. :) About to get my Protein on and that should make it very happy.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
