Just wondering, when we check into the hotel the day before surgery, do we check out the day of surgery or does our room just sit empty until we return? Also to the people travelling alone, where did you keep your passport and electronics while at the hospital?

My understanding is that you check out of the hotel and then back in after your hospital stay. I also read that Mi Doctor has safes in the rooms for valuables. But please ask your coordinator and confirm!

I just had my sleeve done the 23rd of feb and u actually checkout and take all ur items to the hospital with u bt they do have a safe for Ur items if u feel unsafe or just want to make sure they don't get taken. I didnt use it bt they offered it to me after Ur two day stay at the hospital then u return for two more days at the hotel . I was so happy to be at the hotel after my two day stay the hospital beds isn't to comfy bt the hotel beds are awesome :)

I kept the passport, wallet and electronics in the safe. They reset the safe in front of you and turn their backs as you enter your own combination. The safe needs 4 numbers and 1 letter, i.e. 1234A

I also bought 2 suitcase combination locks at target that I kept on my bag at all times.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
