Communication Options

Recommended Posts

Okay I am not all that tech savy. I am wondering what the best way of communicating with my family back here in states while I am in Mexico having surgery. I have an iPhone. I am wondering if as long as I have wifi will it be free to text my husband who also has iPhone. Or we both have a what's up app. I have a netbook but don't really wanna bring it unless its better to use it. If I just use my phone can I disable it to where people can't call me and rack up a huge phone bill. So what's the best way to stay in touch with home?

We have sprint and it sucked! I sent texts and people didn't get them until I crossed back over border. And then I got a gazillion texts that were waiting for me. I communicated online with my iPad and that was fine with my family.

What so I do in order to keep calls from coming in while I am in Mexico? Do I click the answer with a message to on in settings. I know my mom will be calling and I don't plan on her knowing I'm there until I get back.

I have kept mine in airplane mode. That way I don't use data or minutes. Plus I didn't tell anyone but my household so I don't want to take any calls till I get home lol. Just make sure after you put in airplane mode you activate wifi

I have Verizon and the iPhone 5. I've turned off my international roaming...

I see how to switch to airplane mode but how do you disable international roaming?

Settings>General>cellular> roaming>off

I had to walk myself thru the steps 1st to get it right. I hope this helps.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
