Has anyone noticed any taste bud changes after surgery? I made some mashed potatoes tonight and it tasted like an ash tray to me LOL! It was GROSS! I also noticed the EAS drinks I used to drink when I was on a low carb diet taste like poop! I can't even drink them any more. It seems like a lot of the Protein Drinks, I'm having problems with. They are just Plain Gross!

i have noticed things that i used to like before, like some crystal lights and some Protein Drinks are too sweet to me now. Same with stuff that has too much salt.

I was just the opposite, for about 5 weeks, food had to have a strong flavor before I could taste it. I had to double up on my Crystal Light powder to make it taste good. Things are back to normal now.

Yes! I'm 7 weeks out today and I'm still sensitive to things that are too sweet. It was worse right after surgery. I was drinking those bariatric crystals (vitamins) and they literally started hurting my stomach. I almost threw up the last times drank them, too sweet! I found it easier to just stick to Water then. Now I use the Dassani drops or Mio drops to flavor my Water and those you can control how sweet or not sweet you want your drink :)

To me tuna tasted like I just sucked on a handful of pennies! And i loved it before surgery....Weird what our bodies do!

I remember my taste buds being totally out of whack at first. It doesn't last very long.

There are some foods that I use to enjoy that I don't enjoy now. Primarily anything with high sugar content e.g. juices, ice cream (kills me) which are things that I shouldn't eat anyway, so in a way it's good that my sleeve doesn't like them. I usually feel bad after consuming them, so I've been able to stay away from anything with high sugar content. I still don't like the stuff that has the artificial sweetner in it like crystal light or other diet type of drinks. I hated most Protein drinks, which was really hard because I had difficult getting the amount of protein I was suppose to get in early on. I feel like it's trial and error with my sleeve. It's like learning how to eat again. Some things my sleeve likes and some things it doesn't. I also find myself enjoying a certain food one day, but when I eat again the next day I don't like it. Very finicky. I also noticed that I enjoy my food better when it is home-cooked than I do with already prepared meals from the store or a restaurant. Haven't figured that one out yet, but I have begun to cook at home more than I have been. It's hard because I live alone and don't eat a lot, so a lot of food at the end of the week is thrown away. I even have to learn how to grocery shop a little different than I use. Did I already say trial and error - eventually I will find some sort of balance.

Yes. Things that were a little sweet pre op tasted syrupy sweet. I tried beef broth today and it tasted so odd. Didn't expect the broth to taste so odd.

My tastes have changed as well. Nothing really tastes good at all. I only eat because I know I need to. I'm hoping, in a way, that it's because I've been on liquids for so long. I make myself eat everyday. This is the first time in my life I'm eating to live and not living to eat. Weird!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
