Does everyone have a pre-op liquid diet?

I'm getting sleeved on 4/8 and no one at my dr office has mentioned a pre op liquid diet. I have had to lose weight to qualify and now I'm watching what I eat closely but I haven't heard that I will need to do a pre-op liquid diet in the days before surgery. I will ask at my next appointment. Perhaps they're waiting until my preop nutrition class to break the good news. Did everyone have to do that?

were you required to see a nutritionist? My insurance required me to do so and she gave me a specific diet to follow several weeks prior to surgery. She said thete is a liquid diet I would need to follow 2 weeks prior to surgery.

Yes, I was. I have a pre op class 3/28. Maybe I get details there? I'm going to a seminar on possible complications tonight perhaps I can ask someone.

Not every doctor requires it, mine didn't. But you will have to check with yours to see.

I am on a 10 day preop diet of protein shakes, salad and fish/lean protein, then 3 days prior to surgery, it is all liquid and laxatives.

3 week Optifast pre-op diet. Started Feb 25th surgery on March 18. First three days were the worst. Once you break down mentally, it's easy.

No pre OP diet. I even gained a few pounds and not a word was mentioned. 5 weeks post op and def 30 pounds gone maybe more. I will get weighed Fri at follow up appt

I had one week liquid diet. You'll probably find out at your next appt. Good luck with it.

2 week pre-op liquid diet (shakes, puddings & broth from HMR I think) for me coming up. This is supposed to help give your liver a bit of a shrink prior to surgery.

I had a three week pre-op liquid diet. Most of the people I know have had at least two weeks beforehand. Even the ones who don't have the preop liquid diet seem to have to do some kind of laxative in the last few days. Your doctor will prescribe what he feels is best.

I start mine on Monday with a 3/25 Surgery. I knew about it before hand but they gave me the info at the pre op nutrition appointment. I am more worried about this than the surgery. Lots if support from work and home. Good luck

We have the same dates. I start my two week liquid only diet on Monday too! Hope these couple weeks fly by!

After the two weeks we will be looking forward to the surgery. Really we will be fine. This blog is awesome and I have never joined a blog before. Good luck with your next two weeks. Please let me know how your doing.
