My journey started today...

Recommended Posts

I admit that 2-3 three years ago, I would have never considered this. My assessment of folks going in for bariatric procedures was that they needed stronger willpower. Of course, this was how I analyzed things as I yo-yo'd back and forth with my own weight.

My wife began her journey 2 years ago and has since lost 100 lbs and truly begun to enjoy life more than she already was. I watched over this time frame as she would still occasionally struggle and came to realize that this is not an easy way out or cheating but rather a tool to help achieve an end.

So, as I've once again yo-yo'd up to 300lbs, I've taken my first steps toward losing my weight for good. Met with the Dr this morning and need to lose 23lbs to get down to my 40 BMI. I never thought I'd be this excited....I mull over in my head all the things I'll want to do with my new found energy. I think about being healthful and being around for my wife and three little ones.

I know it will not be easy (it never is) but I'm looking forward to the challenges, meeting them head on and finding the better me!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
