Newbie With A Question

So besides searching the internet how do you find a reputable surgeon if you have to go out of town?

I've found a lot of drs. but I want someone with a good reputation and that is hard to do when you don't live in the same city.

I'm having to go to Atlanta(3 hrs away) and don't know of anyone to ask.

Again, I've searched the internet, my family dr doesn't know of anyone. He can send me to someone but he doesn't have first hand information about the dr.

Any advice?

I've got several ideas:

1. Click here: LAP-BAND® - Home -- at the bottom of the page there is a surgeon locator.

2. Check on the main page of this site for the forum on Doctors and Hospitals -- and see if any names from Inamed are listed.

3. Look at the USA local Lapband and support - forum and look for Atlanta. These folks can probably make some good recommendations that you can research.

Good luck,

Jo Ann

Thanks a lot. The link you gave me helped a lot.

The first thing I did was search this site for Georgia and Atlanta. Some things came up but not really about doctors. (a few)

Thanks again.

I researched on OH by state. I know you asked for non-internet ways, but that was a very valuable resource to me.

If you really want to avoid the internet you could call Inamed and ask one of their customer service reps for surgeons in your area, and then meet with each and ask them about their rates of complications, longest term success, etc.

Maybe call one of those 1800doctor places? I've never used it so I can't say whether it's worth the effort of dialing or not, but aren't they supposed to be able to recommend doctors based on criteria? (Dunno)

I probably didn't make myself clear about the internet.

I was referring to the fact that I can find a bunch of dr on the internet but I want reviews. lol

I found 5-7 drs that are on my plan but I don't know anything about them.

Yes, they have a great webpage but I would rather read reviews.

Thanks

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
