Self Pay - time frame start to finish

Recommended Posts

I am looking into having surgery here in Oklahoma - maybe Weight Wise in Edmond - How long from start to surgery date. I have a BMI 36 - no major medical or sleep issues. Just overweight. With all of the testing and things does it tak a long time?

Thanks

I was sleeved there on Feb 12th. I was insurance and had my consultation Oct 26th. I think when your self pay as soon as you meet pre op requirements they schedule you.

Did you have a good experience there? Who was your surgeon? Would you say that they are a good choice? I am so nervous. Thanks!

The entire staff was amazing!! Dr. Broussard is my Dr and I loved him. The whole experience was great and I have no regrets!! Do you come to support group? I find them very helpful and reassuring.

In Florida, it takes around 6-8 weeks from Introductory Seminar to Surgery date.

I am hoping to get in to see them next week and start moving forward. I never thought my husband would agree because of the cost, but I have struggled with my weight for years. I think he just wants me to be happy. I met him and I weighed 125, I am now 100 more than that - crazy! I quit smoking a few years back and had a total hysterectomy, that did not help with the weight at all! :) Thanks! I will see about going to a support group in the coming weeks.

I was self-pay and I went to Mexico....

I too went to Mexico, but was self pay with my band using a local surgeon. That time it was about 4 - 6 weeks. This time it was a bit longer, but that's because I was working with my schedule.

I am self pay. Surgery date is 3/25... from start to surgery date will be about 6 weeks. I was able to meet with my surgeon and complete all the pre-op testing he required (ekg, full metabolic panel, blood count, psych eval in a little over a week. Then I just had to schedule a visit with my surgeon again and get scheduled. Good luck!

I was self pay in Mexico so I'm not sure about in the US, but with my surgeon if I wanted to have surgery 5 days after I called it would have been possible, the amount of time it took me was not due to the surgeon being unable to schedule me, but due to me needing to book at least 3 weeks out to get a decent airfare.

Yeah, I think in Mexico the time frame is whatever fits your schedule. I was able to plan it during a week where I wouldn't be needed at work. I've been booked since the beginning of January, but I've had lots of time to plan and get my affairs in order.

I was self pay in the US and I could have had my surgery as quickly as 3 weeks from my initial consultation. Basically long enough to get to my PCP for pre-op labs/ekg/chest x-ray, and then start my 2 week pre-op diet. The only thing that could have delayed me would have been a positive h.pylori test, which would have pushed things back a couple of weeks so I could take antibiotics and then re-test.

My surgery was 3 months after my first consultation but that was purely by choice due to my own personal scheduling limitations.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
