Diarrhea Problems post-op 5

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am 5 days post op and am looking for answers and adding a little advice. I did not use the spirometer like I shoul have and got a touch of pneumonia. USE IT. I got on anitbiotics yesterday and the fever is finally gone. I had to drink contrast dye yesterday and thought I would not get through it. I did but was unable to drink my fluids like I should have the rest of the day. I feel better today but the biggest problem I have is diarrhea. Every time I take an oz. of Fluid my stomach grumbles and off to the toilet I go. I am just curious if anyone else is experiencing diarrhea or should I strike this up to the contrast dye and hope once my body gets rid of it I will feel better.

It's the contrast dye most likely or the antibiotics or both :P... Give it a day or two

Try and keep up your fluids!

Sadly I am almost a year out and I still have diarrhea. No dr can give me a reason why.

I had the same problem! Diarrhea is my nightmare. I am almost 10 weeks post-op. It is definately better but this surgery has made me lactose intolerant so that is an additional problem that I have no idea how to even begin to deal with! The diarrhea has definately improved but I have to costantly be aware of my body's reaction to whatever I eat and be ready to run to the RR just in case.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
