Just to give all you future sleevers some reference. I was sleeved 2/25 by Dr Thomas Borland in New Iberia, LA. I'm now 5 days post op and I went shopping today. Not for long mind you. And only to two stores and I did sit and rest while in each store but I feel pretty good. I've had quiet a few other surgeries (lithotripsy, tonsillectomy, gall bladder removed, uteral ablasion, tubes tied, hysterectomy) and I can say this was the less painful of any. However my problems came day one and two trying to drink water or anything else. I would dry heave and gag with each try. Not a horrible thing but uncomfortable and exhausting when you are drugged and weak. I was discharged from hospital same day as surgery. That same night I walked around my hotel complex. I did find getting comfortable to be a challenge and so I would sleep in bed a few hours and then in the chair for awhile (not unusual for me on a normal night). But this is getting better after a few days. I haven't had pain meds since day 1 but I am loving Gas X strips. I don't feel hunger at all and it hasn't bothered me to watch others eat. However I would love to just chew on a big greasy cheeseburger. Not swallow. Just move it around in my mouth and spit it out. (Shut up you Pervert). Anyway. That's my experience. If you want to know anything message me.

lol, you are hilarious! Thanks for the update! I only took 3 days off work, I'll be back at work day 6, so you are very helpful with this input!

I actually lol'd at the cheeseburger comment..because I felt the same way!! It has passed now & I don't even want one! I am very fortunate in that I only was nauseated & threw up a little right when I woke up from surgery...haven't had anymore since & I can eat just about anything (except raw onions...sleevy doesn't like them anymore) & I too had very little pain...never even opened my pain meds! You are right...I have had several surgeries & this was the easiest! I love my new sleeve!!

I hope my surgery goes smooth like both of yours has..I am in the home stretch right now 4 days to go..cant wait..

I hope so too! Good luck Pammies! It IS exciting isn't it! 4 more days to your new life!!

My worst complaint was cotton mouth and sore throat. You will want chap stick for sure. Did I mention I have a HUGE bruise from my navel to my pubic bone? About the size of a basketball. Not painful but UGLY.

I'm returning to my desk job on day 7. But waiting 2 weeks to return to my nail salon (can't bend over to do pedicures )

I'm getting a little nervous my surgery is scheduled for March 18 but am so happy to hear that you guys have been in little pain. I have also had several surgeries but this seams a little scary and exciting at the same time.

for those of you returning to work less than a week from surgery, is this normal or what your dr. recommended/approved? it seems like most of what I read has indicated you would be off from work at least a few weeks

I know 3 people who have had the sleeve: 1 was released to go back to work in a week and the other 2 were released to go back after 2 weeks. I'm hoping when my time comes, I'll only have to be off work a week or two.

My dr has asked I take 3 weeks but I'm only taking 2 weeks n 2 days... Shouldn't make that big of a deal. I hope n pray mines an easy one. I get sleeved on 3-6!!

I was back at my desk job after two weeks. I did pretty well during the day but when I would get home from work, I was absolutely beat. It was like my body would crash as soon as it knew it could. I finally turned the corner in terms of having more stamina at the end of week 3.

Hindsight: I definitely would not have wanted to go back after just one week. That second week at home was critical to my feeling more energetic and acclimating to my new world.

I have a desk job so he said it was fine.

  • 5 months later...

I'm planning to have 6 weeks off. I'm a transporter I'm a hospital. More often than not I am tired to help move patients from their needs to stretchers and move patients using either wheelchairs, stretchers or hospital beds. Not sure if I will need all six weeks, but I sure won't complain if the dr says to take them.
