Why can't I practice what I preach? LOL

Recommended Posts

When I was banded the first time around, I was one of those lucky ones that lost during the post op liquid/mushies phase. In the first month, I was down 10kgs (22 lbs). But I see newbies all the time asking why they're not losing and I always reply with the old, "This is the time for your body to heal, not lose weight..."

This time around, I lost 5kgs last week, but jumped on the scale this morning and was up a kilo. Panic mode set in. I had to pull myself back and remind myself that oh wait, I'm healing. lol

Thing is, I know I've had some crap liquids this weekend. Last week I was on the v8, fruit juice, veggie Soup, chicken broth, etc. This weekend, I made up a yummy batch of full fat potato soup with gorganzola, after we took some friends out to an Italian restuarant and I couldn't have my favorite, the gnocchi al gorganzola. Whilst the soup was delicious and filled that craving, it was baaaaaaaaaad lol and had virtually no nutrients.

So, back to the good nutritious liquids this week - not for weightloss, but to get the proper nutrients in order to heal .. then onto weight loss LOL.

*Edit* - Duh, its that time of the month, evidently LOL, which would probably account for the 1kg gain. I was thinking I was feeling swollen from surgery, but must have been bloating lol. YaYYY (first time I've ever been happy for this dreaded week lol).

You've answered your own questions - I think, its a bit hard to follow, lol.

Dont forget you're not so overweight this time either. You dont have much to lose so it wont be fast and dramatic like it was the first time round.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
