Surgery in the morning...and I am not scared anymore

Recommended Posts

I have surgery tomorrow, I was nervous, uneasy, but a sense of calm has come over me.

I am proud of forging ahead into something that scares the hell out of me for a chance at a better quality of life and not letting my fears and insecurities deny me the opportunity.

I feel like a have a chance at a new life. I am really appreciative of that.

Blessings,

j

Jacee:

I'm glad you are feeling at ease about your choice to have WLS. I am only 13 weeks out, and down about forty pounds, but already I am reaping the benefits. There is so much that has changed for the better for me (and my family) in such a short time. I didn't grasp all I was missing out on until I started to really live! The only thing I would change? I would have done it years ago! Good luck.

I'm glad you are feeling at peace with your decision! I was sleeved last Monday and was SUPER nervous up until I actually got to the hospital. But then I kind of went into a "let's do this" mode and it was easier than I thought it was going to be! You should be proud of yourself - this is a journey towards HEALTH! Not to mention all the cute new clothes we are going to get to wear!! :)

You're going to do great!!! Sending positive vibes your way!

There is a roller coaster at Busch Gardens, my second home since I moved to Florida, called SheiKra. The nasty thing takes you up a steep hill and then hangs you over a 90 degree drop and lets you think about it for a while before you plunge. Riding it with my granddaughter helped with the fear. I always have to play macho to impress her so instead of screaming I talked to it during the terrifying ordeal, "Is that all you got? You're putting me to sleep here!"

My granddaughter was truly fearless, she didn't have to talk trash to it, she wanted to get right back on, which we did..... again and again and again.........>

This operation is far more serious than a roller coaster. The concerns are real here. The risks on the SheiKra are statistically nil. The risks of this operation are low but significant. The risks of obesity are not low. The complications of obesity are more like a sure thing.

I got this operation because I feared obesity, which I couldn't conquer without the sleeve tool, more than the operation. I also prayed and sensed God's blessing and had confidence in the surgical team.

I was calm as well, I was correct in feeling that way, and I am so grateful.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
