I had my surgery on Nov. 9th. I spent the night in the hospital on the 17th for dehydration. Now I am very freaked out and scared that I am hurting myself more than helping. I have been drinking MANY more glasses of Water but I am still scared. Any feedback?

WP, I'm sorry about that extra night in the hospital, it must have been very scarey when things turned as bad as they did. Hopefully, that is all behind you and the IV got things all juicy inside again for you.

Many of us were not great at drinking quantities of Water prior to the lapband, or we were used to drinking mainly with meals and the surgery calls for an immediate adjustment to the way we get our fluids. I know for me, it was and still remains challenging not to drink with my meals.

What I have found that seems to work the best is to scatter Water bottles all around the parts of the house where I spend the most time; the kitchen, my bedroom and my office. Then I play a game with myself that if the notion of "water" crosses my mind, I must stop and have some to drink. I've already had to stop three times and drink something since I began writing this note to you! :-)

How can we best support you here on the LBT?

Jo Ann

Thank you so much for writing back...I feel much better...lots more Water and I started adding whey Protein Powder to my instant Breakfast. Still a bit shakey but I suspect alot of it is anxiety. I worry that I will not do this right ...Dr. follow up on Tues. and then I get to start eating puree. Never thought I would look forward to baby food! Everyone keeps telling me what a great thing I've done...hard to feel it when I'm scared but I just have to get through the adjustment. My name is AnneMarie. Thanks again!

Oh my, I just read your dizziness post...and it's all coming together. When I researched my low blood pressure on the internet last night one of the biggest causes dehydration. It would seem to be that your dehydration probably caused a markable decrease in your blood pressure. I would definitely get to PCP today or at least call and let them know what's going on.

I felt dizzy as well but I think it was a decrease in calories. I was so tired after the 3rd day I could not walk upstairs in my house. All I wanted to do was sleep but on Clear Liquids there are no calories to do anything. If I take it easy I feel great all day. If I try to do my walks and I try to clean my whole house I wont last past 8:00pm!

I mix flavored Water and filtered tap Water and drink that. I also make use of my morning commute to drink water. I have a 1 liter bottle that I carry with me. I try to drink one on the way in and one on the way home. I haven't had any problems with dehydration.

Good luck.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
