I know this is odd, but how long after I'm sleeved before I can receive Holy Communion at Mass? It is a round crisp wafer made of wheat flour & Water.< /p>

I've actually been concerned about this myself! Except our Communion (Methodist) is real bread: thick & doughy. I've heard many people cannot stomach breads, at least for awhile. I'm 6 weeks out and just started being able to eat, so I have been avoiding Communion Sundays so I'm not the oddball missing Communion. I don't want to miss Communion forever! I've thought about discussing with my pastor an alternate "bread" for me to discretely use.

I attend a southern baptist church, but we use wafers very similar to the wafers that are used in Catholic mass. I participated in Christmas communion services 7 days after my surgery with no issues at all. Except that I am mildly allergic to the brand of grape juice used at my church...so I did suffer from hives but that's normal for me, lol.

Hehe I thought about this 2, including the sip of wine. I waited 2 months. And then it was fine! But listen to your body, you'll know when you're ready.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
