Dr. McAlexander

Recommended Posts

:help: I am looking for someone who has been banded by Dr. McAlexander in Knoxville. He is new in Jonesboro and who I am considering having do my lap-band. Anybody know anything about him? Anybody ever even heard of him. He seems really nice and appears to know what he is talking about. Just wanted to see if I could get more info on him.

The price was lower than in Memphis and they have quiet a few extras. You get to work with physical therapists to learn how to exercise and you take a college level nutrition class, complete with a trip to the grocery store to learn how to shop. They teach you what to look for and what to look out for. The Dr. also takes the patient and their support person out to eat along with the nutritionist to teach you how to eat/ make good choices in that setting as well. It looks like he has all the bases covered. Now my question is....can he do surgery?

I really would be happy to get any responses. What do you think? Please help! Thanks.

Sorry this is so long,

SueB

Sorry, I've not heard of him. Have you checked out doctors in Nashville? That is where I will (hopefully) be having surgery. A few of them have come highly recommended from this site. The place is called Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity, and there are three surgeons that work there. Dr. Houston was the one that was recommended to me, but Dr. Olsen spoke at the seminar that I went to and seemed very knowledgable. Here is the website: www.cmcwls.com

They do Lap-Bands for $14,400, which is relatively low for U.S. surgeons.

Thanks Laurend, that is a great price. Nashville is not an option for me, I live in Arkansas and it takes over 4 hours to get there. I am all psyched about having the surgery, but I am really nervous that I can't find anything out about the doctor. Any ideas?

Thanks,

SueB

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
