What do I take post op for a bad cough?

Recommended Posts

I have a cold with constant sneezing and coughing. What are you allowed to take for it? What did your Doctors say?

I was told regular over the counter liquid cold or sinus meds were ok. But if you are on pain meds still, check with your pharmacist if there are any issues with taking them together.

How far post op are you? The first few days after it is critical that you DO cough to avoid pneumonia. But obviously you don't want to cough so hard you hurt yourself. I agree with JerseyGirl, I would probably at least call the doctor for this problem.

I've had pneumonia for the last month, I've been taking OTC stuff for a while now without problems. Definitely check with your Dr. though.

Dont take any of those medicines! My garlic home remedy works better than any of those "medicines". TAKE 3 GARLIC CLOVES PEELED AND SLICE THEM AND BOIL THEM WITH 4 CUPS OF Water FOR 15 MINUTES THEN LET THE WATER COOL, REMOVE THE GARLIC AND DRINK 3-4 CUPS OF THE GARLIC WATER THRU OUT THE DAY AND KEEP WARM. YOU WILL BE GOOD AS BRAND NEW IN A DAY. WORKS AMAZING!

Well my Dr said concentrate on fluids and take cold products without NSAIDS. So I got cough Syrup and Tylenol and G2 and went to bed yesterday and today and I'm just waiting for this to pass but I feel awful. And although the garlic might work I could nevr keep it down! Thank you though for the caring. now I'm back to bed

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
