Looking in to Lap Band

Recommended Posts

Have been looking in to lap band surgery. Still not sure if insurance will cover it yet. We just moved to a new state and don't know a soul to find out about recommended Dr.'s/surgeons etc.

Have done some research on the internet where they mention the possibility of complications with the surgery. The only complications I have heard of is possible slippage and leakage. Has anyone had these complications that could tell what symptoms you would have to know if these were occurring? Also, I know that some

Dr.'s sew a flap of skin around the band to prevent slippage. Does anyone know why some would and some would not do this?

If our insurance does not cover this, does anyone have suggestions on how to go about paying for this surgery without going deep into debt?

Any help would be great!

Welcome Tawnda, I'm glad you found us. The best way to get your questions answered is to do lots of reading, then ask more questions. There are threads about every aspect of banding.

As far as how to finance the surgery, I guess if you don't have the cash in your pocket and can't get it covered by insurance, getting some financing is the only option. Unless you have a rich relative or something. I took out a new low interest credit card. It was the best financing deal for me.

Good luck with all this.

has anyone had the lap band surgery done at the bariatric center in illinois? (belvidere, il) my Dr. will be Dr. Boe. He's performed over 1,000 gastric bypass surgeries but only about 30 lap bands. He told me not to worry since the roux-y is much more difficult to do than the lap-band. Just wondering if anyone has been here...i'm a little nervous and excited all at the same time. thanks! :) oh, by the way i will be having the surgery on Nov. 27th. After cancelling twice. my last surgery was supposed to be july 25th and i got scared! i feel ready now:nervous all your input will be great!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
