I cheated on my pre-op liquid diet

Recommended Posts

Did you cheat at all on the liquid diet as far as trying to eat solid food?

I didn't really do a liquid diet... Maybe a couple of days at the beginning of the 2weeks. I drank 2 Proteins shakes and are whatever I pleased for dinner(could never finish my meal). So, I guess I cheated. My frame of thinking was I didn't want to try and cheat once I had surgery and not be able to control it like some ppl.

I am a weak out after completing my Clear Liquids (no cheating and I stayed on it longer than what he'd recommended) and started my full liquids today. Am eating a delicious Tomato Soup right now and it is delicious.

My advice is don't deprive yourself because you may not be able to control yourself at some point. Make a tweak to your per-op diet... Customize it to fit you and still be healthy and low cal. But I am no doctor just a patient who had done it differently with no complications and following my post op.

I just want to do the right thing because I'm afraid the surgeon will go in & my liver won't look like he wants it too & I won't have the surgery done. But I find myself thinking about foods I swore off months ago & I know its my mind going into overdrive because the shakes are (gross...lol) not appetizing & I want something solid. But you're right. I don't want to deprive myself either. Thanks for the advice. I know you're no doctor but I just really wanted to know how someone who's gone through pre-op, dealt with it. Thank you. :)

No problem. Some doctors don't require a per-op diet. I was like if he can't work with a fatty liver then we have a problem because I am OBESE! Lol he better figure it out. But weightloss and diets are difficult and no one knows you better than you. Post op, for at least the first month you won't be able to eat solids and it will be tough if those habits and cravings aren't somewhat out of your system. Best of luck to you!

Hehehe good! You know I have my eye on you! And I know you will do good.

As far as the advise you get here about the diet, procedure etc. always do what YOUR doctor asks of you.

After all, are you going to tell him "well this chick online whom I never meet before told me" "go ahead it'll be fine"

The fact of the matter is, its hard I know, I did it!

And I see people everyday coming here knowing full well what their instructions are! Asking for permission to cheat...

It's what we do we are like addicts looking for a way to get what we want despite knowing its wrong . :)

They have me drinking shakes called BariatrX Essentials by Metagenics. I make 2 chocolate meal shakes, one banana Fiber shake & one banana Protein shake. To trick myself, the only thing I've had aside from the shakes are sugar free popsicles. I'll have one in the whole day. Makes me feel somewhat normal..lol

Some add PB2 and SF Flavors to their shakes to mix up the monotony of things. Maybe that's something you could consider in the future especially since we are on liquids after surgery as well.

I bought a large tub of unflavored Protein and add it to my drinks and now my Soup and I am doing pretty good. But some doctors wants their patients to go with certain brands.

I'm having a really hard time too. Tonight I ended up eating a small piece of fish and a salad. I'm good all day, it's a struggle, but I stick to it, but at night around dinner time I totally lose it. Tonight I was like, That's it! I'm going to Taco Bell and eating everything in the car!! Thank God I didn't. That little piece of fish made me feel so much better. I haven't been to Taco Bell in three years because it makes me sick! These pre-op shakes are making me crazy.

My surgery is the day before yours on the 19th!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
