Did you lose weight differently with your sleeve?

Recommended Posts

This is probably going to sound like a weird question, but I noticed something strange today and I'm curious if others have experienced as well.

I consider myself a slow loser. My next official weigh in is tomorrow, and I will likely be down about 28lbs from my surgery 2 months ago, maybe 1-2lbs from my weigh in last week (which had no loss from the week before).

Anyway, I was in my closet today and happened to find two pairs of dress pants and a pair of jeans that I wore around 30lbs lighter ago. For the hell of it, I put them on to see how much further I had before they would fit. I could actually pull them up and fasten them. Now, they are still too tight to be public worthy - but they fit over my butt/thighs and could fasten around my belly. I was shocked.

Like many of you, I have gained and lost weight my entire life. I know how my body responds to weight loss, but it's different this time. I feel like the scale is more slow to move down with the sleeve, but my clothes are telling me that my body itself is getting smaller despite the numbers not falling. In my past efforts, the scale numbers and body size seemed to go down together at the same time.

Stupidly I haven't been taking my measurements, but it seems to be what's happening based on my clothes.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yup. When I graduated high school, I was 185 lbs and wore 38" waist pants. Now, I am down to 203, and wear a 32" waist.

Yes! It's due to the high Protein. Exchanging fat for muscles. You don't lose weight, but you get smaller..muscle takes up less room then fat. That old saying that muscle weighs more then fat is not true...a pound of fat and a pound of fat are both still a pound...but it sure takes up less room! Lol

I too am losing inches faster than I lose weight. I also didn't take measurements but my cloths are starting to fall off and I am down to 190 and a size 7 panties and a 38DD bra and the last time wearing that size I was about 175.

Also, I have just bought size Large tops at Sam's and am amazed that they are starting to feel big around the shoulders and breasts. Bones are popping out all over also - collar bones and pelvic bones.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
