Good Time to Schedule Consult/Pre Op Appt ?

Recommended Posts

Ok so im getting a bit antsy now . I wanted some advice . We are going to have the money for my surgery sometime in December. We are not 100% sure what time in Dec. But by the end of December we will have it. (We own our own company and are waiting for a job to finish in December then we will have the $) So here is my question. I know it might take some time for the pre op tests to get done . I am wanting to have my surgery the first part of Jan. Do you think it would be smart to schedule my consult mid December. ( with Christmas and the holidays might delay some tests ect.. ) I have money now for pre op testing and the consult visit. Then i'll knwo what i have to do and when i have money in hand all i have to do is schedule the surgery ?

Does this make sense ? LOL

Any advice woudl be great.

Thanks

Mindy

I see no reason not to schedule some of your pre-op testing. It will get you those few steps closer, and also give you a feeling of actually doing something and moving forward...so you may stress less at this stressful time of year. It may also keep you from going overboard on the eating, knowing the testing is taking place. As long as your tests are done within a reasonably soon time frame to scheduling surgery I don't think there would be any problem with it.

Good Luck!!!!

I was thinking along the same lines as you are. That it will make me feel like im moving towards the surgery . Keep me motivated over the holidays. I was eating lunch with someone the other day and i ordered a grilled chicken breast and veggies. She said ' GEEZ IF i were U i would be eating this bacon cheese burger " I told her " Why so i can make things harder on myself by having MORE Weight to loose ? " makes no sense to me to pig out just because i know im having surgery . SO i'm going to try to keep that attitude over the holidays. I for the most part know what my surgeon expects because i speak to him via email him alot. But it will be nice to see him and know what he's expecting ! Thanks for the reply .

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
