I've heard it a few times. Is it like dumping? Can it be avoided?

its a feeling that I think is more common with lapband but you start to feel like you are going to throw up, and for some reason your saliva glands go into hyper-drive and you'll want to throw up. You'll know it if you feel it.

Sliming occurs if you eat too large of a bite, don't chew well enough or take bites too quickly. As NurseGrace says, your saliva glands go into hyperdrive. I had it happen once and it wasn't a vomitting sensation for me. It was closer to choking. Not fun. I stood over the sink while this foam just poured from my mouth. I wasn't able to swallow for a few seconds and then it passed when my throat brought up the poorly chewed peach bite.

It's one of those things that teaches you a lesson, for sure.

Small bites, chew well and don't hurry the next bite.

That sounds horrible!

It's pretty unpleasant, but it can be avoided if you take your small bites, don't try to eat more than you should and avoid bread. You'll learn what things set you off. I haven't had that experience of sliming since the sleeve surgery but with the lapband I always KNEW with the first bite of something if it was going to happen or not.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
