Back Pain When Breathing Deep Post-op?

Recommended Posts

I have no gas pain to speak of unless this is the pain I am feeling when breath deep in my back. Had my surgery yesterday and when I breath in it hurts in my back? Anyone have this?

Glad you are not having a lot of pain. What you are describing sounds like gas to me. It takes several days to get all of the anesthesia gases out of your system. They absorb into your muscles/tissues and can "float" around until you pass them. Have you tried the gas x strips? I took them 2 or 3 times a day post op and it helped to control things. It is a good idea to keep doing the deep breathing (Insentive Spirometer Exercises) too to work that anesthesia out of your lungs. Glad you are doing well and congrats on your surgery!

I had that also... It's normal from what I understand. Although i'm 2 weeks post-op I still have that pain once in awhile. :)

:) Hi Full of Grace!

Don't worry, I had the same pain in my back :sick It will disappear in a couple of days! I recommend that you walk as much as you can, trust me... the more you walk, the faster the pain dissapears. :Banane20:

Something that may help is to blow up 15 balloons per day, this will strengthen your lungs and diaphragm... and ease the back pain. :hippie:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
