Frustation with Relatives

Recommended Posts

I made my decision to go to the first Seminar in Dec and decided to talk to my aunt (who had gastric bypass) and see what she thought. Of course the first thing out of her mouth was its not as good as what I had. I told her that it's what I chose and just thought she could help me. Now that she's a nurse she knows it all. Then she proceeds to tell me that she works with a guy who had it done 2 months ago and has only lost 27lbs. My thought was at least he's losing. You can't expect to be at your desired weight immediately.

The only good thing is my sister is very supportive. She went to the same place for na seminar earlier this year but was told ins. didn't cover. Oh well at least I have her and my hubby.

The lapband is SO much safer than what your aunt had done.

Don't let her influence your decision. You need to do what is right for you.

Good luck.

27 lbs in 2 months! I think that is great!!!!

Believe me, I would rather lose slower and safer.

I am sorry you are not getting the support you should. I actually have only told one friend and hubby, not even my kids (they are very small and I was afriad they would tell the world). the world of soccer moms can be cruel, hehe. People don't know about the band and as soon as they hear surgery, they think bypass. Once this happens, you are expected to lose 100 lbs in 6 months.

Since when is weight loss supposed to be so easy? The band is far more effective to help us make good, healthy, sensible choices MOST of the time. I can't wait for the day I can enjoy an ice cream cone with my kids. Bypass does NOT teach moderation. With that said. To each his own. You made the decision based on your needs and desires, good for you. Good luck with your journey.

Angie, I know how you feel. I do not have my family support either. But remember you doing this for you and your decision is what matters, not theirs! And I agree, 27 lbs in two months is awesome! Now, you go and prove your aunt wrong!

When I told my hubby he was like so your suppose to lose it fast and not learn anything. when we saw her at a pizza place I seriously could not believe what she was eating. We know several people who have had bypass and are big again.

I knew I had to do something my son is almost 8 and weighs 110 lbs. I need to learn to make better choices so he doesn't grow up to be like me.

Thanx so much for the support everyone. It helps alot.

Angie92,

I have three young daughters and they were a MAJOR part of my decision. I DO NOT want them to grow up with the same bad eating habits I have. I also did not want to embarass them. It's funny, I am careful about what they eat and teach them about making healthy choices. I knew they would figure out soon enough I was being a hypocrite. how can I preach to them when, as soon as they are in bed, I break out the chips, sweets, whatever.

I am with you. Changing our bad habits over time is what works for a lifelong commitment.

Again, good luck. Slow and steady wins the thin race:D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
