List of slider foods

Recommended Posts

Having a lap band for a decade, I am an expert on sliders so let me add a few to this list...tortilla chips or anything crispy like a potato chip or cracker and the sneakiest thing of all...any sauces or Condiments that we add to otherwise dense food (like chicken for me) that essentially helps the food to slide down better. One of my favorite slider-helpers was sour cream.

Also, my nemesis and what I have had a love-affair with fore 40 years..pasta. No matter how tight my band was, I can always eat Pasta.

I am a newbie and have read a little about slider foods. Can you tell me some foods to avoid because they are sliders? I read popcorn' date=' shakes, ice cream and chips are sliders to avoid. Any else?[/quote']

Any junk food is slider food !

Popcicles, sugar free pudding, and Jello are all sliders. I don't waste my "space" on anything that doesn't have Protein, most of the time. Try string cheese and later on, beef Jerky.< /p>

My nut said to think of it two ways.....

If it breaks down with mainly saliva and little to no chewing.... Like crackers or chips.. It is a slider and moves through too quickly. BUT

You can also make good foods sliders by adding goop to them causing them to slide on through your tummy too quickly.. Ex.. Too much mayo in tuna, too much gravey on beef or drinking at the same time while eating!

The goal is dense Protein to cause the pylorus to close.

Would Protein shakes be a slider food as well? I ask this because if it contains Protein it should keep us full, right?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
