NOT Happy with Weight Loss

Is it just me?

I have had this band for 3 years and have lost about 40 pounds. Started at 308. I can only be filled 1.0 thats right 1.0, because I have a thick esophogus? Anything over that and I am completely closed. I can't keep anything down and I can see it closed on the X-ray when we go over 1.0. I have never heard of this. Should I change docs? I really want this band out and go for the bypass. I am very disappointed in the results. Do I need to get this thing out first or can they do everything at one time?

Please help:eek:

I'm so sorry you are having problems. Do you feel like giving all of your information. Some people do have the band and bypass surgery done at the same time so I don't see why they can't take the band off if that is what you want. Did you go through your insurance co? Would they pay again for the bypass?

2 years is a long time, what is your doctor saying? Did you guys do blood work to rule other diseases or thyroid problems? How much do you weigh now? What is a typical day of food for you.

One positive note is that evidently you haven't gained any weight. On the average people gain weight annually. Good Luck

I had a revision to the Duodenal Switch (DS) and the band was removed at that time. I've lost about 76% of my excess weight from my all-time high and 72% from the date of surgery.

There are many band surgeons who have limited experience placing the band and even less experience removing one. In my case, my closest "Center of Expertise" band surgeon was just about to do his FIRST band removal (uh...no, thanks, I'll go elsewhere) and my DS surgeon had done enough that he had a drawer with a bunch of removed bands sitting there.

My surgery--band out and DS--was done open and took less than two hours.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
