Where are my maryland sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I'M HERE!!! So glad to see I'm not alone. By chance do any of you know of any support groups in Maryland that meet in person? So far the only groups I'm finding meet during the week and are in Baltimore, which is too far.

Any groups that meet nearer to the Redskin stadium or on the weekends in MD?

Hi Comfy Blue glad to know someone closer to home is here. I do know that med star Montgomery Medical center does support groups every Wednesday at the end of every month around 6 or 7 pm.

Hey Rebecca! I'm from Baltimore and still working on a surgery date too. Where are you having yours done?

I had my surgery Jan 7, 2014. It was a very easy recovery with very little pain and only a little nausea for the first few days. I had my surgery done at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center by Dr. You - he is terrific!

Im in MD, near UMD. I was sleeved by Hopkins Bariatric Chair and surgeon Dr Michael Schweitzer on Oct 15 at Hopkins Bayview. Super smooth surgery and recovery! Wonderful program at JHU from start to finish.

I work at UMD and live in Northeast Baltimore. Are you going to a support group?

Hey all!!

I'm a newly sleeved Marylander (NY transplant). I was sleeved in Baltimore by Dr. Katherine Lamond on Monday, April 21st. I live in Annapolis and work in College Park and would love to find people in any of those areas for support/work out buddies/recipe swaps (for when I actually get to eat!).

Surgery went well, gas is almost completely gone - thank goodness!! I'm dealing with some incision pain still but it's not too terrible. I've been walking a lot, even got on an elliptical briefly at the gym! I'm feeling great and losing weight, seeing differences in my body and am just generally excited about this journey (though also probably as anxious as well lol)

I'm from MD, closer to the city i.e. DC. I had my surgery at Washington Hospital Center.

I'm 2 1/2 months into the process of getting approved. Assuming I do, Dr. Brebbia will be my surgeon at Washington Hospital Center. What were your impressions of him and the facility?

Dr. Bebbia is a great doctor. I had the gastric sleeve on 05/02/14 at Medstar Montgomery Hospital. No regrets.

I go to one once a month at Medstar Montgomery on Prince Philip Dr. in Olney. The Bariatric Coordinator is Kenny Alexander (301) 570-8593. KAlexander@medstarmontgomery.org. He can give you the schedule.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
