Running and need advice

Recommended Posts

A little back ground ..I'm on week 5 day 1 of couch 25k, it's going great and going to do color in motion fun run feb2.. Sooooo excited. I run every other day while at home with the kiddos two days a week I work double shifts as a baggage handler for united so exercise after or before work isn't going to happen believe me I get plenty while I'm there. So finally here's the question.. I'm looking for some at home strength training wether it be a routine or a video I can do on the days I run , I realistically I have to get all my excercise in on those three days, is this feasible and what are some recommendations? I tried it yesterday doing Jillian michaels trouble zone shred about 5 hours before my run and I feel like I really struggled through because of it

Well, it's going to be a struggle no matter what, but it's doable. You've got the right idea. Separate the 2 workouts as far apart as possible. One first thing in the morning and the other at night is ideal. Also, you have to consider your food intake on those days, especially carbs. You may have to eat more than you normally do on those days you're doing 2 workouts to fuel your body. Lastly, I would consider not doing resistance training for my legs within 24 hours of a run. Your best bet would be to run in the AM and do some upper body training in the PM. Then, do legs the next AM and don't run until the following AM....that gives you the 24 hours between runs and lower body workouts. I don't know your age but unless you're a highly trained athlete with youth on your side your muscles need that recovery time as much as they need the exercise.

I think you can do it. I can relate to your schedule. I work 12 hour shifts with an hour commute each way. I do more exercise on my days off work, and when I'm working my workouts tend to be shorter and easier. It all evens out in the end though.

Typically I try to get my running out of the way first. I don't feel as wiped out by the time I hit the weights. If I do, then I just back off a bit. The carido is a bigger deal for me.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
