Thanks so much for responding! I just see so many people here with higher BMI's and more health problems getting denied and I am just hoping my insurance is'nt as bad as some I have seen.

I recently went to my first seminar and meeting with my Doctor and they checked out my insurance which is BCBS of Texas. They told me that my policy does cover the surgery but because it's a new policy that I must wait till Jan 2014 to have the surgery. Was completely bummed but I'm going to be working with my doctor to get everything I need done during this time and take it from there.

I have bcbs federal insurance. I had lap band in 2008 and they approved it within a week. I sent in to have the sleeve done and after 2 weeks they sent back saying they needed proof I had tried to lose weight with a dietician. I had that and sent it in. Took about a week and they approved it.

I also have BCBS/Tx and the surgery is covered! I have a PPO if that matters, I can scan you the information that they sent me if you want?

Wow that is horrible...so many dumb loopholes. Sorry to hear that but in the mean time u can starr changing ur habits so when u have the surgery u wont be overwhelmed by the change. Good luck!

I had BCBS of Arkansas for public employees....100% exclusion on all obesity treatment! I wanted to have this surgery years ago! In Arkansas they thought teachers should not get obesity treatment, and be good examples for the kids! Yes, I'm still bitter lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
