Anyone 5 yr or more post op sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for surgery on 1/22/13. I'm getting really nervous about long term health post op. I'm curious how many sleevers on this forum are 5 or more years.

5 or more years.

hi

i don't think there are any 5 year sleevers yet

i know some 2+ years have posted here

if you are having doubts about WLS - IMO the sleeve is the greatest.

Nerves are totally understandable - many many people get scared, emotional pre-WLS - its great

You made the wise decision to chose WLS - don't second guess yourself (if possible) ;)

i understand being inquisitive about long term sleever, results, etc.

don't think there are any stats on those long term people yet

i'm sure i'll be a survivor 5+ years out + many, many more years :)

13 months post-op, down 103 lbs - GOAL

good luck

I have the same date as you, so I cant speak to being post op myself but I can tell you what my surgeon told me which was basically that the sleeve seems to have about equal results as an RNY gastric bypass WITHOUT complications like so many ulcers and absorptive issues.

Thanks, I'm trying really hard to stay positive & not worry. I notice that so many WLS patients have poor health & end up in the hospital at some point. I just want to know that if I take my Vitamins like I'm supposed to will it prevent this? I'm 31 yrs old & hopefully I will have atleast that many years ahead. I just want to remain healthy.

many sleevers have problems such as gallbladder, hernia - other issues pre-WLS

many problems are taken care of during or shortly after surgery

"some" people might have issues/problems from the surgery itself - post op too - but they are far and few between

Dehydration happens sometimes if you don't get all your Water in - but theres an easy fix to resolve that problem

to be successful with the sleeve - yes you do have to take all your Vitamins, and follow ALL the rules your NUT gives you

the sleeve will work for you if you work with the sleeve - goes hand in hand ;)

"Want to remain healthy"??

are you kidding me girlfriend???? thats why we're all here silly!!!!

losing the weight, you will get so healthy, being slender too, not a bad side effect ;)

after 20 years, i am off all diabetes/insulin/meds - no more high blood pressure or CPAP - and knees are doing great

you are a young chic of 31 - looking into my chrystal ball - i see many, many, many wonderful healthy, happy years in your future :)

not sure if you are pre-op or post op???

take care

good luck

You can also go to dr. Alvarez's Endobariatric channel on YouTube. Check out the video called "Sleeve gastrectomy magic". Or do a google search with the same name and it should come up. Sorry, I don't know how to add a link to it. The lady on the video is almost 5 years out. She brought her daughter to have the surgery, so I'd say that's a good endorsement.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
