Hello Everyone!

My name is Brooke and I am 21 years old and am currently attending nursing school! I have just recently (within the past 48 hours) decided on the Vertical Sleeve! I originally chose Gastric Bypass but after going to my info session this past Thursday, I believe the Sleeve is the better choice for me!

I am currently 260-265 lbs. (fluctuates) and 5'6". No diabetes, HBP, etc. Although I may have slight apnea, haven't been tested yet!

My goal is 130-140 lbs., which is lower then what I was my freshman year of high school! (2006)

I have my first evaluation appointment scheduled for this Friday, January 18th.

I just recently found out my insurance, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illonois, doesn't require a supervised diet anymore and am hoping to get a surgery date scheduled within the next couple of months!

I would love to hear all of your stories and any advice you have for me!

Thank you :)

Brooke

Hi :)

I'm 21 too and I'm going to be sleeved Feb 4th! I'm in college and worried about being sleeved during a semester but I chose easier classes. Two on-line and two on campus, so I'm mainly ready to suck it up lol! I'm going to add you as a friend! Good Luck with everything!

Good For you!!! It has been the best thing ever. I am down 35 lbs including pre op diet and I feel great. Not much pain just some soreness but all manageable. Two nights in the hospital and then a week at home (xmas week) and then back to work. I was a littel tired at first but not too bad. liquid diet for two weeks then soft puree foods. Regular food added little by little now and not too many problems with tolerating them. Just have to remember to eat slowly. Getting enough liquid was hard at first but ok now. Gotta remember to sip sip sip. Getting deydrated would be not fun.

Looking forward to new clothes!

Good Luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
