Hello all!

I was sleeved on Monday, January 7th. Felt good the first two days. Went home from the hospital with terrible gas pains on day 3.

I can't tell if I'm having cramping or gas now.

I'll drink sometimes and get what feels like cramps. Is this the new full feeling??

Hi Kathy,

I have a feeling in the sleeve while eating and drinking that is like gas. I am 2 months out so it doesn't hurt like it did in the beginning. Most likely you are feeling pain because you are still healing. I use Gas X Strips. It really helps with those feelings. I carry those strips with me all the time just n case. I have to be careful not to swallow air while drinking... Hope that helps! Tina

Hi,

I was sleeved the 8th and I have the same feeling until a gas bubble comes up! Also, it may be TMI, but my favorite pose is to get on my knees and forearms with my butt in the air and let the gas rise up my back.......such relief! I also take gas x and the nurse gave me a thumbs up on them!

Hi leaves,

I did not have a BM for 12 days. Trust me do yourself a favor and start taking whatever your Dr. Recommends. I took milk of magnesia, liquid stool softener, drank 1 oz of warm prune juice all in the same day and no movement. The next day I did the same thing and added a supository and finally had results. My Dr. Said that I was having that problem because I was not drinking enough. The truth I was doing the best I could.... In the end I had to use different combinations of the little helpers for the first month. Now at 2 Months all is normal in this department.... True enough I am drinking 64 oz's at least of liquids a day. I added a cup of Decaf coffee in the morning and bam that is the combination that seems to work. Sorry

I rambled on ... But I hope it helped. My main point is don't wait to contact your Dr. And ask for some direction as to what you should take to have a BM.

Best wishes! Tina

I had severe pain in my left shoulder from the surgical gas on day 5 post op...it moves around and gets stuck...try moving a lot...also gas x is good if its gas in your sleeve.

Milk of magnesia is great the first months out...it works faster for us sleevers so stay close to home/bathroom but there is no cramping or pain with it like laxatives cause...

Hope you feel better soon!!

I was sleeved on the 7th too - Congrats! I am also having gas pains, but the hospital sent me home with baby gas drops. They work really well....

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
