Not!! Read this story of the personal stomach pump!

http://www.foxnews.com/health/2013/01/09/extreme-weight-loss-new-personal-stomach-pump-sucks-food-straight-out-stomach/?test=latestnews

I think this shows the patience health is less important to researchers than the patients desires. Give them what they will pay for: A way to eat more without the consequence. I hope this never makes it out of the FDA it seems like a medical stamp of approval to an eating disorde!

Wow, that thing looks so bizarre. It may also have a secondary effect of not wanting to eat after seeing half digested food several times a day. I don't want to judge too much as not every way to lose weight is right for every person, but this one feels more like an eating disorder to me (binge and purge).

Wow that is wrong in so many ways! I especially liked how they call gastric surgery a quick fix. Obviously they did no research.

Can you imagine the complications from walking around with that thing and constantly sucking food out of your stomache.

I think food getting stuck is probably the least of the concerns they should have...

Wow. Looks like a 'bulimia device' to me. Great way to foster an eating disorder! Let's hope this thing never makes it off the cutting room floor.

I was just about to mention that "quick fix" comment and then I saw you caught it too! I had two people tell me similar things (taking the easy road, going for the quick fix). I stopped talking to them about my journey.

Wow! I can't even begin to imagine the problems that this wud cause. That's scary and I hope they are not approving this. That wouldn't help you make a life change either. It's almost similar to the lap band because of the port they place under the skin

I cut their knees out from under them. My standard response is "I'd hardly call 25 years of dieting, losing and gaining weight to the point that I had life threatening surgery a quick fix".

I've only had to use it once. She's a moron so it's not her fault

There are major complications with sucking digestive juices out of the stomach. Namely, it screws your electrolyte balance up something fierce. And food isn't liquified fully in the stomach. We've all puked back up undigested food even before our surgeries.

And lets not deal with the emotional/psychological issues of overeating.... AAAAARRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
