I live across the river in IL and am looking for support also. Just got my surgery scheduled for March 4th. I know my doctor has a monthly support group to attend, however, unsure if it's open to everyone.

Fifty and Hippy: Congrats on your surgery date. My daughter had her surgery at Barnes, but she had the RNY. I live in O'Fallon, IL so I am also on this side of the river:)

I would be willing to attend Eagon's support group if it's open to everyone else..or if you'd rather, I would love to meet you and go from there. My sister had the sleeve as well so we are all kind of sailing this together. I'm 52 my sis is 58 so we are all of a like age and prob with the same issues (don't we all!!)

Let me know, coz it's been helpful talking with my family, but someone new with new insight would be great.

Ann

Ann in st louis, hi! Sorry I am behind on my sight. So exciting to see you and your sister on here. I will ask about dr eagon's support groups. They also have them on wed's now. I will call tomorrow and let you know. I am getting nervous and excited. I am having my surgery @ Barnes West. I have to be there by 5:30am so will be getting up around 3:30am. I will be tired without the anesthia, lol. Enough about me, how are you doing?

Hi - sorry for the late response but just stumbled across this thread. My surgery date is Sept 4 at DePaul. They have a support group that meets every third Wednesday of the month at 5:30. I forget the room number but I bet if you called they'd provide. Perhaps we will meet up there one day!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
