New Sleeve and Doing Alright

Recommended Posts

Hi my surgery was December 31, 2012 and Dr. Alana Chock was my surgeon. At 46, I had everything on the list; high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, asthma, sleep apnea, and gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD), and joint pain. The only thing not on my list is diabetes and since it runs on both sides of my family it was my turn to literally “look at the woman in the mirror…and change my ways.”

So far I am doing alright, I feel fine and being around food does not seem to bother. I do not know how long that will last but for now with my journey that’s ok

About me, I am 5”6, and my start weight was 282lbs pre-op and the day of the surgery I was at 275lbs and since my surgery I am now down to 269lbs. It is all gradual but it did not take me overnight to get this heavy.

Finally, no regrets, just taking it one day at a time and taking my small slips on my liquid diet so that I heal properly.

Thanks for reading me :)

Great mindset! I had my surgery 12/5... I keep telling myself that I didn't gain it overnight and I won't lose it overnight...

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
