Hello Christy

I'm currently going to montefiore as well not sure if my surgeon is going to be Dr Choi or vemulapalli...I'm switched from Harlem hospital to montefiore I did most of my appointments at Harlem hospital but was told I would have to redo them for montefiore because they like their own records but I will find out Thursday when I go to the seminar..I hope I don't have to redo them but if I do o well..how was the seminar when u went to it were u able to pick which Dr you wanted or was one just assigned to you?

Hope to here from you soon

Hey! Welcome to VST and also Montifiore hospital! I attended the seminar on oct 26 and my first appointment with Dr. Choi was December 20th. the seminar was nice and quick! But a lot of Important info given. Everyone's favorite doctor seems to be Dr. Choi and also Dr. Camacho. I was a bit scared when I went to the first appointment with dr. Choi but I guess it's just the whole surgery thing has me worried , I mean every surgery should be taken serious but being that I've never had surgery for any reason makes me terrified! Lol but this forum has really made me feel much more comfortable with my decision. My doc advised me on maybe thinking about RNY due to my reflux but RNY just has too many malabsorption issues. To tell you the truth on still confused and scared of coming to a decision on which surgery to have because deep down I'm worried about getting rid of 85% of my stomach but I guess running around with 320 pounds should be more intimidating! ugh! Decisions ! Decisions! May god be with all of us! I have my foray weight management appointment January 30th so wish me luck and I wish u the same! Let me know how it goes!!! :)

Hello again

I also was confused because I wanted the band but after researching I have made up my mind to get the sleeve. I was saying the same thing about the 85% of stomach gone just wondering how would that feel not to have it..what would be like but I'm still for the sleeve..I really just want it over with because I been contemplating for a while and I'm getting disgusted with my weight..take your time to figure out which one you really though..weigh your options....Im excited about the seminar though I also want to meet these doctors..hopefully I can choose the one I want lol...

O by the way I'm 5'4 height and 297 pounds which I'm not happy about...

Have you ever tried most the weight on your own? I've been thinking about that. I really haven't given myself an opportunity to lose it k. My own but then I'm terrified of exercising and making my heart work so hard to lose 100 pounds . It's such a big decision and even though you know what the decision should be (getting surgery) I can't stop worrying.. :(

Well I've tried weight watchers, takeing ripid fuel, Jenny Craig, I've even gone cold turkey since July of this year and stopped eating fast food period and low and behold I'm still my size then I've tried eating smaller meals but then I get lightheaded because I'm still hunger and then the big one I've signed up to a job but my weight prevents me from doing bike riding the way I want or even running so I've resorted to walking practically everywhere just to strengthen my heart...but when its all said and done I'm only losing like 5 to 10 pounds...so that's why I have made the decision to do the surgery

And you know what your not alone with those thoughts...I don't think its a negative thought I just feel its more like you feel you try to eat right and exercise to no avail...so now it seems like no other alternative but surgery..well that's how I feel..I'm just tired of feeling down and out about myself, not being able to play with my kids without being out of breath and and not being able to fit clothes that I like, or not liking how they look on me...I'm scared to death of surgery..my every thought every day is this surgery and just like it has to be done before something happens to me...I just leave it in gods hands.

Dr. VEMULAPALLI is the best bariatric surgeon at montefiore. I had gastric bypass with her on Aug.21 2012 and no complications at all. While recovering from surgery i seen alot of Dr. Choi and Dr. Camacho patients come in with lots of complications. Not to scare you but i would do research on each surgeon. My cousin also had surgey with Vemulapalli without any complicqtions after.

Hello blackmagikcrush

My referral does say Dr. Vemulapalli on it. I did do research on her without doing research on the others.. I will definately stick to vemulapalli thanx for your input. I would like to ask you though, how was your experience at montefiore also did you have to drink that dye thing to see if you had a leak or did they do it another way...just very curious how your experience was overall I'm a very penal person and a lot turns me off with Dr's and hospitals.lol..that's why I switched from Harlem hospital to montefiore and trust me it wasn't the Dr why I switched it was how Harlem hospital was too many mistakes I saw them making when a friend of mine had the sleeve done there...

but anyhow please reply I would live to know your experience and what to expect.

Blackmagi, what type of complications has Choi & camachos patients had? I have a friend of my mine that had surgery on oct 20th 2012 with choi and she's already lost 51 pounds , eats well and went to DR for a month in December and came back with no complications. The only things she's had is reflux and she's taking her pils for that. Other wise DR. Choi has a very good back round and experience In bariatric surgery. So please if you can explain what type of complications You've heard of them having.. Thanks

Hello to all my Bronx neighbors. I live in the Bronx, my surgeon's office is in the Bronx too but he is affiliated with st Lawrence hospital in bronxville which is where I had my surgery 6/5/13. As if a month ago, I've lost 30lbs and can't wait to find out in a week or so how much more I've lost when I see my dr Miguel silva. He is great and his office is at Astor ave by eastchester rd. A friend of mine had hers with dr. Camacho and no complications. Good luck and keep in touch.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
