Outraged! Age Discrimination in Medicare coverage of the Sleeve!

Recommended Posts

Whether or not this is true, it's still unfair, and what about quality of life??? I'm only 13 weeks out and already my life is better than it was before surgery. It's sad that people are being denied this tool because of their age.

I was able to borrow from my mother in law so that helped. Glad I didn't wait because I made it through Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and am now 50 pounds lights and off many of my meds. I might just be starting now because I don't know where Michigan stands on the sleeve now.

I am from s Ohio . I had sleeve nov 28 , 2012 . Medicare paid and I was 66 on surgery day. My surgeon did a lot of personal work to get Medicare to cover sleeve since it passed in June. It took a few months. Don't know what he did but before nov they could not get them to pay till the surgeon stepped in. I was very lucky.

My surgeon is trying to do a Medicare patient here in Pennsylvania. The first Medicare patent for them and the VSG. I was supposed to see how it went and I’d follow. Well,

They sent in the request. Over a month ago. No word. I talked to the coordinator, no word yet. She had told me that Pennsylvania is not a very proactive state. I’m not sure what that means but I don’t like it.

The word to start with was it looks hopeful, now the word is (I just don’t know) I’m disappointed to say the least.

I’m 54 now. I sure would like the surgery soon.

I’m thinking if I could supplement my Medicare with something extra would I have a chance? Where could I even get council on this issue?

Ahhhh.

Well, my surgeon called me. Its looks clear, Medicare will pay. I’m singed in for the VSG surgery. My first meeting is on April 24.

This will start the process; now praying I qualify in all departments for the surgery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
