I would start with limited walking, sounds like your still sore.

^ I agree! Walking is the best thing you can do but I would carefully walk in short intervals due to the soreness you are currently experiencing. This way you don't hurt yourself and can get the exercise in. Some people rush and get set back for months.

Just remember 'slow and easy wins the race'

If it makes you feel any better, I had complications due to dehydration and was in the hospital for over a month. During this time, I lost my ability to walk. I am walking now, working on decreasing my wobble. I usually ride the bike for 20 minutes to work on my quads and then walk a half mile to a mile. Depending how I feel, I'll toss in weight machines, too. Since starting last week, weight has been flying off. I'm a prime example of slow and easy winning ;)

I went to see my surgeron and NUT at 2 weeks out (last Wed) and both said ok to me starting to use my recumbent bike at home, and walking. No weights yet. I have to wait til the end of this month when I go back to get the official okey dokey.

Good luck!

The key is to do something active 6 days a week. Don't worry about how far or how fast you are going yet. Just make it regular part of your daily routine. Your body will adjust quickly and that running will soon turn to running and you'll be shocked by the amazing physical things you can now do. Keep it up and watch it happen.

I was 460 November 2009. Part of the Pre surgery orientation included 4 free sessions with personal trainer. After 10 minutes on treadmill I was done. It 30 minutes to do a mile. I just got under 16 minutes and added 5 miles on stationary bike. Trying to make up for holiday office food of Cookies and cake

I started exercising at one week....walking. My surgeon insisted on it. I found that being very active almost immediately helped me to recover very fast. Working out the soreness by keeping your body active on a regular basis works. The more sedentary you are, the more sore you will probably be.

They had me walking the halls at the hospital the night of my surgery and I haven't stopped. The only problem I'm having is my legs get sore and tired but they will gain strength, I'm sure. I live in Michigan and just bundle up and keep walking even in the snow. Now that I'm back to work it has gotten next to impossible to walk regularly but I'm finding ways to get short walks in. I've seen a direct correlation between walking and how much I lose.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
